Adrenalyn XL is Panini's ongoing flagship football/soccer trading-card-game line, the modern commercial successor to their classic sticker albums that has been running continuously since 2010.

The game

Published by Panini from 2010 onwards, Adrenalyn XL uses an attribute-comparison format where each card has ranked values for Defence, Midfield, Attack and a special Goalkeeper attribute for keeper cards. Matchups resolve by comparing numbers, with special-ability cards (Star Player, Hero, Limited Edition, Goal Machine) triggering modifiers.

The context

Panini has dominated international football collectibles for decades through their sticker-album publishing, and Adrenalyn XL is the TCG-format extension. Annual and seasonal waves cover Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1, UEFA Champions League, FIFA World Cup and Euro tournaments. Distribution is mass-market newsagent across Europe and increasingly international.

The collector angle

Because Adrenalyn XL is annual and tied to the football calendar, each season's release becomes progressively rarer as Panini prints the next year's edition.
