Allegiance: War of Factions is a late-1990s sci-fi CCG built around a four-faction galactic political struggle, positioned as a more tactically deep alternative to the dominant fantasy-themed CCGs of its era.

The game

Released in 1998 by Apprentice Games, Allegiance: War of Factions is a two-to-six player multiplayer CCG where each player commands a galactic faction (Military, Corporate, Criminal, Psionic) and competes for Territory cards representing star systems and megastructures. The Allegiance mechanic lets neutral units defect between factions during play based on majority-control triggers.

The context

By 1998 the CCG market had cooled significantly and Apprentice Games was among the smaller publishers still trying to launch new IPs. Allegiance's multiplayer-first design attracted a niche audience of players who preferred political-negotiation gameplay over straight combat duels, but distribution was thin.

The collector angle

Only a base set shipped before Apprentice Games discontinued the line. Cards are scarce today and rarely surface in CCG aftermarkets; the game is primarily a historical curiosity for completionist collectors of late-90s indie CCG launches rather than a trade-active collectible.
