Ben 10: Alien Force TCG captures the second animated Ben 10 series (2008-2010), the timeskip sequel where Ben, Gwen and Kevin were aged up into teenagers and the Omnitrix's alien roster was completely refreshed.

The game

Released in 2009 by Upper Deck, Ben 10 Alien Force TCG is a two-player duel where each player controls Ben Tennyson (or cousins Gwen and Kevin) transforming into the Alien Force-era alien forms (Swampfire, Echo Echo, Humungousaur, Jetray, Big Chill, Goop, Brainstorm, Spidermonkey, Chromastone, Alien X). Mechanics use a Transformation-chain system where successive alien swaps trigger cumulative bonuses.

The context

Ben 10: Alien Force was Cartoon Network's follow-up to the original Ben 10 series and kept the franchise near the top of boys-audience ratings. Upper Deck's TCG arrived in the show's second season when the character dynamics had solidified and the Alien Force-specific alien roster was fully established.

The collector angle

A small number of waves shipped through 2009-2010 before Upper Deck's TCG division contracted. Foil Alien X and Ultimate Ben transformation cards are the trophy pulls, as both represent the show's most narratively significant power escalations. Because the franchise has had multiple animated series and reboots since, the Alien Force-era TCG cards preserve that specific teen-Ben period that fans of the 2008-2010 run particularly value.
