Case Closed TCG is the English-market adaptation of Detective Conan, Gosho Aoyama's perennially running detective manga that has been one of Japan's top-selling properties for three decades.
The game
Released in 2005 by Score Entertainment, Case Closed TCG is a two-player investigation duel where each player plays a Detective (Jimmy Kudo/Conan Edogawa, Richard Moore, Rachel Moore, Harley Hartwell) and solves Case cards by accumulating Clue cards faster than the opposing player. Red Herring cards can be played to mislead the opponent's investigation.
The context
Case Closed had been running as Detective Conan in Japan since 1994 and was one of Shonen Sunday's highest-grossing ongoing properties. The English Funimation/Viz translation was in its early run when the TCG launched, aligning with the Cartoon Network Adult Swim broadcast of the anime.
The collector angle
Only a small number of waves shipped before Score's late-2000s contraction ended the line. Cards are genuinely scarcer than many Score TCG products because the US Case Closed audience was smaller than Dragon Ball Z or InuYasha. Foil Conan-Kudo-transformation cards and the Phantom Thief Kid rare are the signature pulls. Japanese Detective Conan card games are a separate massive catalog that does not cross-play with the English Case Closed version.
