Clone Wars Adventures TCG ties into the Sony Online Entertainment free-to-play MMO of the same name, a kid-audience Star Wars Clone Wars-themed browser MMO that ran from 2010 through 2014.
The game
Released in 2011 alongside the Clone Wars Adventures MMO, Clone Wars Adventures TCG is a two-player duel designed with straightforward mechanics for the MMO's kid audience. Cards came with code-unlock integration for the Sony Online Entertainment browser game. Characters drawn from the Clone Wars animated series (Anakin, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, Yoda, General Grievous, Count Dooku, Asajj Ventress) form the hero and villain pool.
The context
Sony Online Entertainment had gone hard into free-to-play kid MMOs in the 2009-2011 window, and Clone Wars Adventures was their flagship Star Wars-licensed project aimed at younger players than the Star Wars Galaxies audience. The MMO shut down in 2014, and the TCG was one of the tie-in products produced during its active run.
The collector angle
A small number of waves shipped during 2011-2013. Because the MMO is offline, unredeemed online-unlock codes no longer function, and the cards are collected purely for their physical-object value. Foil character cards of the show's most-popular characters (Ahsoka Tano, General Grievous, Darth Maul in his return arc) are the primary chase pulls.
