Cyberpunk CCG is the R. Talsorian Games Cyberpunk 2020 universe adapted into cards, landing between the pen-and-paper RPG's long cult run and the eventual Cyberpunk 2077 video-game explosion.
The game
Released in 2003 by Social Games (licensed from R. Talsorian) and designed by Steven Palmer Peterson, Cyberpunk CCG is a two-player corporate-runner duel. Each player takes on the role of a netrunner crew infiltrating a rival corporation's assets. Ice, programs and meat-world muscle are all separate card types, reflecting the RPG's distinction between physical and net encounters.
The context
The Cyberpunk RPG had been running since 1988 and had a durable audience of players who had grown up on the Mike Pondsmith rulebooks. The CCG was timed with the long-running RPG's ongoing support and was one of several early-2000s cyberpunk-themed card games (Android: Netrunner's roots trace adjacent lineage). R. Talsorian provided direct setting consultation.
The collector angle
Only a small number of waves shipped before Social Games stopped production. Print quantities were modest because the CCG market had cooled significantly by 2003 and Social Games had limited distribution. The Mike Pondsmith-signed promos from 2003 RPG conventions are the visible chase, and the net-run mechanic cards with original Cyberpunk 2020 illustrators' signature art are cross-collected by the RPG community. Crossover interest from Cyberpunk 2077 fans after 2020 lifted prices on a game that had been mostly dormant in the aftermarket for fifteen years.
