Dark Eden CCG inhabits the Target Games-produced post-apocalyptic Paris setting, where the collapse of civilization has left the City of Light a brutal ruin contested by mutants, zealots and the techno-corporate remnants of the Mutant Chronicles universe.
The game
Released in 1997 by Target Games and Heartbreaker Hobbies and Games, Dark Eden CCG is a two-player duel where each player runs a faction (Brotherhood, Dark Legion Nepharites, Paris Revenants, Hunted) and contests control of Paris district location cards. The setting shares its cosmology with Doomtrooper and Kult, and mechanics share some card-fate concepts with Doomtrooper.
The context
Target Games was extending the Mutant Chronicles setting into new CCG branches, and Dark Eden slotted into that universe as a ruined-Earth-after-the-war companion product. The 1997 launch hit Target Games just as the company's financial troubles were mounting, which cut the line's planned expansion pipeline short.
The collector angle
Only a small number of releases shipped before Target Games' 1999 bankruptcy ended the CCG pipeline. Because the game shares an IP with Doomtrooper and Warzone, Dark Eden cards are cross-collected by Mutant Chronicles fans completing their Target Games archive. The post-apocalyptic-Paris illustration by Paul Bonner and other Target regulars is the primary visual draw, and signature faction rares are the primary collector items.
