Dark Force CCG is a late-1990s dark-fantasy CCG from the wave of smaller publishers who tried to stake out a gothic-horror corner of the CCG market alongside properties like Vampire: The Eternal Struggle and Kult.
The game
Released in 1998, Dark Force CCG is a two-player horror-duel where each player commands a faction of occult creatures (Vampires, Werewolves, Revenants, Cultists) and fights across Necropolis and Manor-themed location cards. The Shadow mechanic lets players play hidden cards face-down, creating hidden-information bluff play.
The context
Late-90s gothic-horror CCGs had a small but passionate audience, and Dark Force competed for the shelf space already dominated by Vampire: The Eternal Struggle. The game's distribution was regional and heavier in European markets than North American.
The collector angle
Only a small base set and one or two expansions shipped before the publisher wound down. Cards are genuinely scarce and the game is primarily a historical completionist target for collectors assembling late-90s CCG archives rather than an actively traded collectible. The gothic-horror illustration style of the rarest Vampire Lord and Werewolf Alpha cards is the main draw for the niche aftermarket that exists.
