Digimon: Digi-Battle CCG is Bandai's original English Digimon card game, the one Upper Deck distributed during the peak of Digimon Adventure and Digimon 02 airing on Fox Kids.
The game
Released in 2000 by Bandai and distributed in English by Upper Deck, Digi-Battle CCG is a two-player duel where each player builds a Tamer deck with a rotation of Digimon that evolve across the game using Digivolve cards. The evolution mechanic is the signature flavour element, modelling the show's transformation sequences.
The context
Digimon was positioned as a direct competitor to Pokémon in the 1999-2001 kid-TV market, and the CCG aimed to replicate Pokémon TCG's success. It did not quite get there but it had enough sales through mass-retail (Toys R Us, Target) to sustain multiple booster waves.
The collector angle
Series 1 through 5 make up the main Upper Deck Digi-Battle print, plus a variety of Starter Decks and Promo packs. Holofoil first-generation Digimon (Agumon, Gabumon, Tentomon, Biyomon) are the nostalgic chase for fans. The Angewomon Mega-level rare is among the most iconic pulls. Original Japanese Bandai cards from the pre-Upper Deck print are a separate market, and cross-collectors track both.
Rarity breakdown
