Doctor Who: Alien Armies is a dedicated antagonist-focused expansion in Panini's long-running Doctor Who Battles in Time trading-card-game line, specifically themed around the enemies the Doctor has encountered across the series.

The game

Released in 2009 by Panini UK, Doctor Who Alien Armies is a companion set to the Battles in Time main line. It expanded the card pool with new Dalek, Cyberman, Sontaran, Judoon, Ood, Silurian and Weeping Angel cards, giving antagonist-faction play deeper options in the established matchup-resolution mechanics.

The context

Panini had been producing Doctor Who Battles in Time through the Doctor Who Adventures magazine and through themed expansion releases since 2006. Alien Armies landed during Series 4 of the revived Doctor Who (Donna Noble companion era) and aligned with that season's marquee antagonist showings.

The collector angle

Holofoil Dalek and Weeping Angel cards are the iconic pulls for enemy-faction fans. The mass-market newsagent distribution model means cards remain available in closeout inventory at BBC-merchandise outlets long after the individual wave's release. Signed cards featuring classic series-era monster actors (Nicholas Briggs as Dalek/Cyberman voice) are rare but exist from Doctor Who convention signings.
