EVE: The Second Genesis is the CCG adaptation of CCP's massively multiplayer space-economy simulation EVE Online, translating the game's famously brutal capsuleer space warfare into cards.
The game
Released in 2006 by CCP and distributed via White Wolf, EVE: The Second Genesis is a two-player corporate-warfare duel where each player builds a fleet from the four major races (Caldari, Gallente, Amarr, Minmatar) and fights across the New Eden universe. Mechanics use an ISK (currency) economy and ship-module loadout system that closely mirrors the MMO's fitting-screen.
The context
EVE Online had been live since 2003 and was developing its reputation as the MMO where real political and economic events (corporate heists, massive alliance wars) made mainstream news. CCP acquired White Wolf in 2006 and the CCG was produced through that combined publishing arm. The setting's lore, painstakingly developed over years of MMO play, gave the card game an unusually rich flavour-text foundation.
The collector angle
Core Set and the Blood Tribe expansion are the main prints. White Wolf/CCP wound down the CCG line when the MMO sector shifted focus. Foil Titan-class ship cards (Avatar, Erebus, Ragnarok, Leviathan) are the prestige pulls and often sell to EVE MMO veterans as trophies rather than to CCG players. Signed cards from CCP Fanfest 2006 are the rarest items because Fanfest attendance was small and the signing sessions were informal.
