Gate Ruler TCG is a Japanese multi-IP crossover TCG released in 2020, bringing together characters and franchises from multiple anime, video games and tabletop properties into a single competitive card pool.

The game

Released in 2020 by Bushiroad and its partners, Gate Ruler TCG is a two-player crossover duel where each player builds a deck drawn from multiple participating franchises (including Shaman King, Ultraman, Yuuki Yuuna, SAO, Re:Zero, King of Fighters, Senki Zesshou Symphogear, and others). The Gate mechanic lets players summon characters and abilities across universe barriers through shared portals.

The context

Crossover TCGs with multiple anime licenses have become a Japanese-market specialty, with Bushiroad, Weiss Schwarz and others producing games that fuse dozens of properties. Gate Ruler aimed at that established market with a broader-than-typical license portfolio and a setting-independent crossover premise.

The collector angle

Gate Ruler is Japanese-language and primarily distributed in Japan. Full-art holofoil crossover cards of signature characters (Asuna from SAO, Saber from Fate, Rimuru from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime) are the primary chase pulls. Because the game ties into many parallel franchises, individual cards are cross-collected by fans of the underlying anime properties rather than strictly CCG players.
