Gormiti TCG brings the Italian creature-collection property into card form during the international Gormiti: The Lords of Nature Return anime run, when the Giochi Preziosi toy line had broken into worldwide distribution.
The game
Released in 2010 by Upper Deck under license from Giochi Preziosi, Gormiti TCG is a two-player duel where each player builds a Lord team from the five Tribes (Sea, Earth, Air, Forest, Volcano) and battles across Element-aligned location cards. The Ultra-Gormiti transformation mechanic lets certain Lord cards combine with their elemental realm for increased power.
The context
Gormiti had been a European playground phenomenon since 2005 as a small collectible toy line, and the 2008-2010 animated series expanded the IP to international TV. Upper Deck's TCG was aligned with the English-language broadcast and was pitched at the same 6-to-10 year-old demographic that the toys had captured.
The collector angle
A small base set plus a handful of booster waves shipped during the 2010-2011 window before the English-market Gormiti presence faded. Foil Ultra-Gormiti cards for each of the five Tribe Lords are the signature chase pulls. Italian-language Giochi Preziosi prints are an earlier and parallel card pool with larger distribution across Italy, France and Spain, and Italian collectors maintain more active aftermarket interest than English-speaking markets.
