Gundam War CCG (New Version) is Bandai's 2005 revised-edition relaunch of their long-running Japanese Gundam CCG, updating the mechanics and card layouts for the Gundam SEED/SEED Destiny anime era.
The game
Released in 2005 by Bandai, Gundam War CCG (the 2005 revised edition) is a two-player mecha-combat duel where each player builds a Mobile Suit squadron across factions drawn from every Gundam anime in the franchise. The revised format simplified the game's original 1999-era rules and introduced new mechanics reflecting Cosmic Era (SEED) technology.
The context
The original Gundam War CCG had launched in Japan in 1999 and run for six years before this 2005 revision. The new-version relaunch was timed to the SEED Destiny broadcast and aimed to bring in new Cosmic Era-era fans while continuing to support long-time Gundam War players.
The collector angle
Nearly forty booster expansions were released across the 2005-2012 new-version run, covering Universal Century, Cosmic Era, After Colony, Anno Domini, and Advanced Generation Gundam content. Parallel-foil and signature-foil Mobile Suit cards are the primary chase pulls. Because Gundam War is Japanese-language only and distribution was essentially limited to Japan, international collectors must source through Japanese import channels.
