Lego Bionicle: Bohrok Swarm is the 2002-2003 expansion wave of the Bionicle CCG, aligned with the second year of Bionicle's storyline when the insectoid Bohrok invaded the island of Mata Nui.
The game
Released in 2002 by Upper Deck under Lego license, Lego Bionicle: Bohrok Swarm TCG extends the Quest for the Masks base game with Bohrok enemy cards (Tahnok, Gahlok, Nuhvok, Lehvak, Pahrak, Kohrak) and new Toa Nuva cards representing the upgraded Toa heroes from the Bohrok story year. The Swarm mechanic lets multiple Bohrok attack simultaneously, modelling the collective-intelligence of the enemy insectoids.
The context
Bionicle's second story year in 2002 was the Bohrok-focused arc, with toys, books, a tie-in video game (Bionicle: The Game in 2003) and a dedicated CCG expansion all in coordinated release. Upper Deck extended the Quest for the Masks card pool to match Lego's storyline expansion.
The collector angle
The Bohrok Swarm expansion exists as a companion to Quest for the Masks rather than a standalone product. Toa Nuva foil cards are the chase pulls, particularly Tahu Nuva and Kopaka Nuva. Because Bionicle has a substantial adult collector community that values complete story-year archives, the Bohrok Swarm cards are important for collectors completing the 2001-2003 early-Bionicle era, which is widely considered the most iconic period of the franchise's toy run.
