Lego: Nexo Knights

Lego Nexo Knights TCG accompanies the Nexo Knights animated series and toy line (2015-2017), Lego's original-IP medieval-sci-fi mashup that followed Ninjago as the next tentpole original property.

The game

Released in 2016 by Blue Ocean Entertainment, Lego Nexo Knights TCG is a two-player duel where each player plays a Nexo Knight (Clay, Macy, Lance, Aaron, Axl) or a Jestro/Monster Army antagonist. Mechanics use a Nexo Power scan system where cards with QR-code-style patterns are meant to be scanned by companion mobile apps to unlock digital content.

The context

Nexo Knights ran from 2015-2017 as a Cartoon Network animated series with a full Lego toy line. The property did not sustain Ninjago-level traction and the line ended after two years. The Blue Ocean TCG was primarily a European-market product.

The collector angle

Several small waves shipped during the 2016-2017 active window. The Nexo Power scan cards were designed to work with the Merlok 2.0 companion app, and cards with unactivated scans retain value to collectors who want complete app-library unlocks. Foil knight-specific rares are the primary chase pulls.
