My Little Pony CCG rides the Friendship is Magic generation four revival, the Hasbro series that accidentally became one of the biggest cross-demographic phenomena of the 2010s via the adult Brony fandom.

The game

Released in 2013 by Enterplay, My Little Pony CCG is a two-player duel where each player builds a deck around the Mane Six (Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rarity, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie) plus supporting Equestria characters. The Friendship mechanic is the core hook: characters gain power from in-play synergy with other friend cards, and playing alone is a deliberate handicap.

The context

Friendship is Magic had launched in 2010 and by 2013 had a dedicated adult fan community that drove merchandise demand well beyond the target kid audience. Enterplay was the Hasbro-authorised trading-card partner for the MLP brand, and the CCG was designed to serve both the playground kid audience and the Brony adults simultaneously.

The collector angle

Premiere, Canterlot Nights, The Crystal Games, Absolute Discord, Equestrian Odysseys, High Magic, Marks in Time, Defenders of Equestria, Seaquestria and Beyond are the major expansions that ran through 2018. Ultra-rare holofoil Mane Six cards are the iconic chase. The Princess Celestia and Princess Luna hero cards are premium pulls. Because the Brony community maintains active trading despite the line's 2018 end, MLP CCG prices stay relatively stable and specific chase pulls command strong premiums driven by the fandom rather than the CCG player base.
