Rage: Tribal War is the second wave of White Wolf's Werewolf: The Apocalypse CCG line, revising the original 1995 Rage CCG with new mechanics and a heavier focus on Garou tribal politics.
The game
Released in 1998 by White Wolf Publishing, Rage: Tribal War is a two-to-six player multiplayer CCG where each player runs a Werewolf pack from one of the thirteen Garou tribes (Black Furies, Children of Gaia, Get of Fenris, Shadow Lords, etc.) fighting the Wyrm's corruption, each other, and the slow death of Gaia. Mechanics emphasise pack cohesion, Rage points, and form-shifting between human, Crinos and Lupus forms.
The context
The original Rage CCG (1995) had built a dedicated fanbase that had outgrown the first set's mechanics. Rage: Tribal War was the response: bigger card pool, re-tuned combat, more multiplayer support. It arrived during the peak of World of Darkness RPG popularity and was designed to tap the existing Werewolf: The Apocalypse player base more directly than the 1995 release.
The collector angle
The base Tribal War set plus War of the Amazon and Umbra expansions make up the main run. White Wolf discontinued the line in 2000 to focus on Vampire: The Eternal Struggle. The foil Totem cards (Fenris, Grandfather Thunder, Pegasus) are the chase pulls, and Signed Storyteller cards given out at the 1998 Camarilla fan club gatherings are genuinely rare. Crossover cards with the Vampire: The Eternal Struggle CCG are a small but real collector niche.
