Star Wars Destiny is Fantasy Flight Games' post-WotC Star Wars card game, combining collectible cards with custom attribute dice in a hybrid format that was genuinely novel at the time of its 2016 release.
The game
Released in 2016 by Fantasy Flight Games, Star Wars Destiny is a two-player duel where each player builds a team of characters (Luke, Vader, Rey, Kylo Ren, Han, Leia, Poe) and supports them with Upgrades, Events and Supports. Each character card comes with a matching attribute die that is rolled into play and used for damage, resources and special effects. The Battlefield card represents the shared location.
The context
FFG had taken the Star Wars card-game license after Wizards of the Coast's TCG ended in 2005 (via their Living Card Game format). Destiny was their attempt at a true random-booster collectible format, leveraging the Force Awakens theatrical release to hit a fresh audience. The dice-plus-cards hybrid was unusual for a major CCG.
The collector angle
Awakenings, Spirit of Rebellion, Empire at War, Legacies, Way of the Force, Across the Galaxy, Convergence, Allies of Necessity, and Covert Missions are the main expansions. Fantasy Flight discontinued the line in 2020. Legendary-rarity character cards with matching dice (particularly the Legendary Luke Skywalker, Vader, and Rey) are the trophy pulls and command prices that track closely with the character's film popularity. The plastic dice are part of the collectible object, and a card without its matching die is notably less valuable than one with the intact dice pair.
