Super Deck TCG is one of the earliest post-Magic CCGs, from the 1994-1995 first-wave of publishers who rushed into the category after Magic's explosive breakthrough proved the market existed.
The game
Released in 1994 by Card Sharks, Super Deck TCG is a two-player duel with deliberately stripped-down mechanics designed to teach CCG concepts to players who had never heard of Magic. Each deck has 40 cards and turns resolve quickly through attribute comparison rather than elaborate stack-based resolution.
The context
1994 was the Cambrian explosion year for CCGs: Magic had proven the market, dozens of publishers filed product for release, and most did not survive the subsequent shakeout. Super Deck was positioned explicitly as a 'gateway' game for new players rather than for seasoned hobby-store players, which was a design philosophy that would become much more common years later but was novel at the time.
The collector angle
Only the base set shipped before Card Sharks wound down the line amid the 1995-1996 CCG contraction. Super Deck is historically interesting as an early-design CCG artefact more than as a collectible with active secondary-market demand. Collectors assembling comprehensive histories of 1994-era CCG launches specifically hunt down sealed Super Deck product as part of that archival exercise.
