The original Shin Megami Tensei Digital Devil Story card game was produced by Enterbrain (also rendered Enter-Brain) and launched in Japan in December 1997, making it among the earliest physical card game adaptations of the Megami Tensei franchise. Players take on the role of Devil Summoners, each with 200 hit points, competing to reduce the opponent to zero using two decks of 60 cards apiece.
The Enterbrain game drew from eight Megami Tensei entries, including Shin Megami Tensei 1 and 2, SMT If..., Devil Summoner, Soul Hackers, Persona 1, Persona 2, and later Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne. It ran for nine series, the final being titled Monument of Goddess, and was discontinued around 2003. Even in Japan the game was never widely documented, and by all contemporary accounts it had a niche audience within a niche hobby. A fan digitisation and English-translation project preserved scans of the first four editions for Tabletop Simulator, keeping the game accessible to modern players.
