The Kiba Trading Card Game is a Japanese-language collectible card game published by Upper Deck Japan in 2006, developed in tandem with the action anime Kiba produced by Madhouse and Aniplex. Upper Deck served as a primary sponsor of the anime, which aired on TV Tokyo beginning April 5, 2006. The anime was deliberately aimed at older audiences rather than children, a creative decision that complicated the game's marketing reach. In gameplay, players assume the role of a Shard Caster who wields marble-like magical shards and commands monsters called Spirits in battle, mirroring the anime's core magic system. The combat structure bore strong similarities to Upper Deck's other products of the era, including the VS System. The game released two sets and included a starter deck containing 50 cards, a rulebook, and a playmat. No English-language edition was released. After the anime concluded and sales declined, the game was discontinued. The rights dispute between Upper Deck and Aniplex over the Kiba property later ended in a US court judgment of $3.95 million against Upper Deck in 2011.
