Marvel Champions: The Card Game is Fantasy Flight's Marvel-licensed cooperative LCG, launched in 2019 and now one of the best-selling cooperative card games in the hobby.
The game
Designed by Michael Boggs, Nate French and Caleb Grace, Marvel Champions is a one-to-four-player cooperative game where each player builds a deck around a Hero identity (Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Iron Man, Black Panther, many more) with alter-ego and hero sides. You cooperate to defeat a Villain scenario (Rhino, Klaw, Ultron, Kang, Galactus) before the scheme completes. Each hero flips between their alter-ego (where they recover) and hero (where they fight) sides, a mechanic that models the Marvel story rhythm cleanly.
The context
Marvel Champions used the lessons of Arkham Horror and Lord of the Rings LCGs and ran them through a high-profile IP, which gave it the broadest casual market of any FFG LCG. The scale of expansion output (new heroes every few months, villain scenario packs, campaign boxes) is higher than any prior LCG.
The collector angle
Core Set plus Hero packs for nearly every major A-list Marvel character and full Campaign Boxes (Rise of Red Skull, Galaxy's Most Wanted, Mad Titan's Shadow, Sinister Motives, Mutant Genesis, Next Evolution, Age of Apocalypse, Silver Surfer) make the line massive. GenCon promo variant-art Heroes (Captain Marvel, Thor, Iron Man alternates) are the prestige pulls. Because the line is still actively printed, early-cycle products occasionally go out of print between reprint cycles, creating temporary collector scarcity windows.
