Warhammer: Invasion LCG is Fantasy Flight's Warhammer Fantasy Battle LCG, released in 2009 and the proving-ground for the fixed-distribution cooperative-expansion model before Lord of the Rings LCG refined it further.
The game
Designed by Eric M. Lang, Warhammer: Invasion is a two-player duel between Warhammer Fantasy's factions (Empire, Chaos, Dwarfs, Orcs, High Elves, Dark Elves, Lizardmen, Skaven) where each player runs a Capital city composed of three zones: Kingdom (produces resources), Quest (draws cards), and Battlefield (plays units). You attack the opposing zones with units and burn two to win.
The context
GW's Warhammer Fantasy Battle setting was in its 8th Edition prime when the LCG launched. Invasion was the first LCG built on a wargame-style unit-positioning chassis, and it was the template for the later Warhammer 40K: Conquest design. It ran from 2009 through 2013 before winding down; GW would fully retire the Warhammer Fantasy setting in 2015 and replace it with Age of Sigmar.
The collector angle
Core Set plus six Battle Pack cycles (Corruption, Enemy, Morrslieb, Capital, Bloodquest, Eternity) and six Deluxe Expansions (Assault on Ulthuan, March of the Damned, The Burning of Derricksburg, The Inevitable City, Fragments of Power, Legends) make up the complete print. Because the Warhammer Fantasy setting itself is retired, Invasion LCG has crossover collector value with GW miniatures collectors who want the setting's visual record in cardboard form. Alternate-art General of the Empire and foil Chaos Lord promos from European tournaments are the chase pulls.
