Weiß Schwarz is an anime and game-franchise crossover trading card game published by Bushiroad, launched in Japan in December 2007 with initial trial decks and entering full commercial release in March 2008. The name is German for white and black, reflecting the game's two-faction structure: the Weiß side and the Schwarz side. Players construct 50-card decks built around a single licensed property and compete using character, event, and climax cards. A clock-and-level mechanism governs which cards can be played and functions as each player's life total, with victory coming when an opponent is pushed to level 4. Each licensed franchise receives its own dedicated booster set or trial deck, and by 2010 the game had produced over 100 million cards within 21 months of launch. An official English edition launched in 2013. The participating title list grew to encompass more than 150 anime and game properties including Sword Art Online, Attack on Titan, Fate/stay night, and Re:ZERO, cementing Weiß Schwarz as one of the most prolific multi-franchise card games in the world.
